White Sesame Seeds in Yakuzen: Benefits for Digestion, Skin, and Constipation Relief

White sesame seeds

Japanese
Shirogoma (白ごま)

White sesame seeds are widely used in Japanese cooking. In sesame oil, salad dressings, and everyday dishes such as goma-ae (sesame-seasoned vegetables) and furikake (rice seasoning). Their nutty, slightly sweet flavor adds depth to meals and makes them a versatile ingredient, even for snacks.

Compared to black sesame, white sesame contains more fat, which can help relieve constipation. However, because of their cooling nature, they may not be suitable in large amounts for those who often feel cold or have cold hands and feet (a sign of yang deficiency).

In addition, the linoleic acid in white sesame seeds oxidizes easily, so it’s best to enjoy them while fresh.
