Western Oranges for Indigestion, Thirst, and Qi Flow

Orange

Japanese
Orange (オレンジ)

When we talk about “oranges” here, we mean Western varieties such as Navel oranges and Valencia oranges—not Mandarin oranges (known as “mikan” in Japanese).
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), oranges are believed to promote the smooth flow of Qi (vital energy) throughout the body. When Qi circulation becomes stagnant, it can lead to a variety of health issues, from digestive discomfort to tension and fatigue. Enjoying oranges may help ease these symptoms by gently improving Qi movement.

Western vs. Mandarin Oranges in Yakuzen
While both Western oranges and mandarins are valued for their ability to support Qi flow, they differ in their nature.
In TCM, Western oranges are classified as having a cool nature, meaning they help clear excess heat and refresh the body.
Mandarin oranges, on the other hand, are considered warming, meaning they gently warm the body and are more suited for those who tend to feel cold.
